A Bit About Mold
Mold has been around for more than 400 million years, in that time, mold has been both friend and foe.
While the benefits of mold include winemaking, cheese-making and organic decomposition; molds can also pose serious health risks. In home, offices and other structures mold can feed on building materials found throughout modern day structures. The challenges of mold in the home are even mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible (Torah), as cited in Leviticus chapters 13 and 14.
Mold is a ubiquitous fungus; it exists in nearly every environment. It thrives on moisture and feeds on materials like wood, dust, drywall and much more. Once spores have settled on a surface a colony begins to form and spread.
For some people, especially the immuno-compromised mold can pose great health risks. Species such as Cladosporium, Fusarium Penicillium and Aspergillus (aka black mold) can be especially damaging to health. Common reactions we see are:

Mold Prevention Tips
While mold is ubiquitous, it is possible, to take steps to limit mold growth in home and commercial environments.
A Few Simple Steps to Preventing Mold Growth Include:
- Sealing Bathtubs and Sinks
- Re-Grouting Tile
- Inspect Windowsills, Walls, Roofs and Foundation - Checking Regularly for Signs of Moisture Intrusion. If moisture is detected it is recommended to run fans and/or dehumidifiers to dry the area within 48 hours.
- Regularly Inspect Basements and Attics for Signs of Moisture, Damage and Mold Growth.
- Have Central HVAC Systems Cleaned Regularly.
- Open Windows, When Possible. Good Air Circulation provides a Strong Defense Against Mold Growth.
- Keep Humidity Levels Low (below 60% max).
- For Agricultural Workers Use Protective Gear Such as a Respirator Whenever Possible to Prevent "Farmer Lung", Particularly When Working with Hay, Grain, Feed and Similar Ag Products.
- Avoid Running Dishwashers, Washing Machines and Other Water Intensive Appliances When you're Not Home, as Leakage Can Go Undetected, Creating Opportunities for Mold Infestations.
